Spreadsheets change constantly — pricing updates, inventory adjustments, data corrections, formula revisions. When someone sends you an updated spreadsheet, you need to know exactly which cells changed and what the old values were.
Excel's built-in comparison features are limited and often require add-ins or a specific Office version. ChangeChecks offers a simpler approach that works in any browser.
How it works
The tool parses both files and compares them cell by cell. Every changed cell, added row, and removed row is highlighted in a clear table view.
What you'll see
The summary bar shows how many cells changed, how many rows were added or removed, and the overall similarity. A context line identifies the area with the most changes — e.g. "Most changes are in column D" or "Rows 15–23 were added".
The comparison table shows your data with changes highlighted. Changed cells display both the old value (in coral) and the new value (in sage). Added rows have a sage background. Removed rows have a coral background. Unchanged rows between changes are collapsed by default — click to expand them.
Merged and side-by-side views
The merged view shows one table with changes marked inline. The side-by-side view shows the original and revised spreadsheets next to each other with aligned rows and synchronised scrolling.
Supported formats
Excel workbooks (.xlsx, .xls), CSV files (.csv), and tab-separated files (.tsv). For multi-sheet workbooks, you can select which sheet to compare using the dropdown.
Common uses
Checking price list updates from suppliers. Verifying that a data export matches the source. Reviewing budget revisions to see which line items changed. Comparing inventory counts across time periods.
