How does spreadsheet comparison work?

ChangeChecks lets you compare Excel files online for free — no Microsoft 365, no account, no upload. Drop in two .xlsx or CSV files and we will show you every cell that changed, every row that was added, and every row that was removed. The summary bar tells you the row counts and change totals before you start scrolling.

Spreadsheet comparison is one of those tasks Excel makes hard. Most diff add-ins are paid; Spreadsheet Compare ships with a specific Office SKU; online tools usually require an upload to their server. ChangeChecks runs entirely in your browser, so financial models and customer lists stay on your device. The output is a side-by-side table view with old values shown beneath new values for any changed cell, and added or removed rows tinted accordingly.

Whether you are auditing a price-list update, reviewing a vendor's revised quote, or verifying that a data export matches the source, the workflow is the same: drop two files, scan the summary, jump to the rows that changed.

Frequently asked questions

Are my spreadsheets uploaded anywhere?

No. The files are parsed in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

What formats are supported?

.xlsx (Excel) and .csv. Older .xls files need to be saved as .xlsx first.

Does it work with multiple sheets?

Yes. You can pick which sheet to compare from each workbook using the sheet selector.

Can it find moved rows?

Partially. It detects added and removed rows; a moved row appears as one removal plus one addition unless an exact match is found nearby.

Is there a row limit?

Yes, a soft one. Most browsers handle 50,000+ rows comfortably; very large workbooks may slow down depending on your machine.
