How does image comparison work?

ChangeChecks lets you compare images online for free, with no account and no upload to a server. Drop two versions of a photo, screenshot, design comp, or product render side by side and use the slider, fade, or pixel-difference modes to see exactly what changed. The summary bar tells you the percentage of pixels that differ and the regions that contain the most variation.

Designers and QA teams use this to verify a comp matches the build, marketers check whether a hero image was swapped, and product managers confirm that a render reflects the requested change. Because everything runs in your browser, you can drop in unreleased artwork or sensitive screenshots without worrying about where they end up.

JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF formats all work. Different sizes are aligned automatically; equal-size images give the most precise pixel diff. If you need to compare two images for differences quickly without installing Photoshop or signing up to a comparison service, this is the no-friction option.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. They are processed entirely on your device. ChangeChecks never sees the file.

What image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF. Other formats can be tried but are not officially supported.

Can I compare images of different sizes?

Yes. The smaller image is scaled to align, but pixel-level diffs are most accurate when both images share the same dimensions.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes, a soft one. Limited by your browser's memory — photos under about 20 MB compare almost instantly.

Does it detect colour shifts as well as content changes?

Yes. The pixel-diff mode highlights any pixel that does not match exactly, including subtle colour adjustments.
